Finalist – The Independent Photographer Awards

I’m honored to share that my work, Plastic Bottle Recycling, has been awarded as a Finalist in The Independent Photographer’s competition - Visual Story, judged by the legendary Elizabeth Krist.

A former Senior Photo Editor of National Geographic magazine with over 20 years of experience, Elizabeth Cheng Krist is a founding member of the Visual Thinking Collective and is on the boards of Women Photograph and the W. Eugene Smith Fund. Throughout her extensive career, she has taught for the International Center of Photography, reviewed portfolios for the New York Portfolio Review, and mentored for the Joop Swart Masterclass.

The Photo is described as: A woman worker sorts used plastic bottles in a recycling factory. She helps to prevent the bottles from being discarded, sent to landfill, where they can take 1,000 years to biodegrade, or incinerated, which produces toxic fumes. The emission of CO2 and other greenhouse gases will be reduced if recycling takes place in the production of new plastics. This small yet significant act supports environmental sustainability by promoting a responsible cycle of reuse, reducing the strain on natural resources, and safeguarding our ecosystem for future generations.

I’m grateful to the jury and to The Independent Photographer for this honor, and I look forward to sharing more stories and images in the months ahead.
